Tips for preparing
TIPS FOR PREPARING FOR OBALA ULTRA TRAIL
Reduce volume, keep the feeling
A week or two before the race is not the time for heroic mileage. Lower your training volume, but keep easy runs and a few short strides to stay “awake”.
Train specifically: rocks, roots, downhills
If possible, train on terrain similar to the coast and the Karst region. Short, technical sections and descents make the biggest difference on race day.
Check your gear, don’t experiment
Shoes, sleeves, headband, pack, bottles, gels — everything should already be tested. Race day is not the place for new gear.
Dial in your nutrition in the final days
Aim for a few higher-carb days without overeating. Simple food, enough salt and water. Double-check which gels and drinks suit you best.
Rest your mind
Quality sleep during the last three nights is more valuable than any extra training. A short mental walkthrough of the course can give you more confidence than another run.
Plan your logistics
Start location, arrival, bib pickup, weather, drop-bag gear… fewer unknowns mean less stress.
Set a realistic goal
Think about your pace, your effort and the strategy for the first kilometres. An ultra on the coast rewards patience.
Remember that part of the challenge is enjoyment
When tougher moments come, look around — the views, the sea, the Karst ridge — this is the energy you shouldn’t miss.
